Plumbing software, and which kind you actually need

"Plumbing software" covers at least four different products that solve different problems, and buying the wrong one is the most expensive mistake in this category. This page separates them, points you at the right shortlist, and shows what the 12 plumbing-capable platforms in the reviewed catalog actually cost.

Work out which product you are shopping for

Running the business day to day → plumbing field service software. Pricing scoped work → plumbing estimating software. Pricing known tasks at the door → flat rate pricing software. Drawing pipe layouts is a CAD problem and is not covered here at all.

The four things people mean by plumbing software

01

Job and field service management

Scheduling, dispatch, the mobile app, invoicing and the customer record. This is what most people are looking for and what the products below do.

02

Estimating and quoting

Pricing work that has to be scoped first: repipes, remodels, commercial jobs. Wants staged costing and change orders.

See plumbing estimating software

03

Flat rate price books

Pricing a known task at the door in under a minute, with options. Overlaps with job management, but the price book is the real product.

04

Design, takeoff and CAD

Drawing systems and measuring off plans for commercial work. A separate industry with separate vendors, none of them reviewed on this site.

Every plumbing-capable platform, cheapest published price first

Narrow it by how you work

One truck (7 options)

Subscription cost and setup time are the enemy. Most enterprise-grade tools are actively wrong at this size.

Need to know what a job made (9 options)

Job costing is what turns a finished job into a better next estimate. It is the most commonly missing capability at the cheap end.

If you sell maintenance plans, 9 of the 12 plumbing products list service agreement support. That is the capability most likely to be assumed rather than checked, and the one most likely to be missing.

Before you shortlist

Three questions that remove most of the market

Trade and company size disqualify products outright in the ranking used here; everything else is a preference. Answering these before you look at features saves a fortnight of demos.

  1. Service or projects? Fast repair work and scoped repipe work need different tools, and the products that do both well are the expensive ones.
  2. How many people need access? Not technicians — everyone, including the office and part-time staff. Per-user pricing turns on this number.
  3. What is your accounting system? QuickBooks Desktop in particular removes most of the market before anything else matters.
What is the best software for a plumbing business?

There is no single answer, which is why this page starts by splitting the category. For a small service-led shop, the cheapest published-price options that serve plumbing are the right starting shortlist; for project work, the quote-only platforms are built for it. Compare on the plumbing shortlist.

Do I need separate estimating software?

Only if your estimating starts from drawings. Most plumbing businesses are served by the quoting built into a field service platform, provided it also costs the finished job so you can tell whether the quote was right.

Why are some prices missing?

Either the vendor does not publish pricing at all, or nobody here has verified a current number. Those two are kept distinct throughout the site, because one is a fact about the vendor and the other is a fact about us. See the methodology.

Trades, features, size fit and pricing come from the reviewed catalog with sources and check dates. Design and takeoff tools are outside the scope of this site and are not rated.
